AFB annouces exclusive pet food industry license for use of Ganeden Biotech patented probiotics
Partnership with Ganeden Biotech Allows AFB to Bring Viable Probiotics to the Pet Food Manufacturing Market
(St. Charles, MO, October 21, 2008)
Leading pet food palatant manufacturer AFB International, Inc. (AFB) today announced the acquisition of an exclusive pet food industry license from Ganeden Labs, for the use of Ganeden patented probiotics. AFB Chief Executive Officer Jacquelyn A. Levin said AFB will bring pet food palatants formulated with GanedenBC30™ to market.
“Ganeden’s product represents a great advancement in probiotic science and will make possible exciting therapeutic applications for the development of functional pet foods and treats,” said Levin. “We at AFB are very happy to have the opportunity to work with GanedenBC30.”

GanedenBC30 (Bacillus coagulans GBI-30, 6086) can survive in digestive acid and bile. It also survives harsh food production processes and is viable not only for supplementation, but for addition to food products. Probiotics are live microorganisms, such as bacteria, that are normally present in healthy mammalian digestive systems. Supplemental probiotics have been administered to humans and animals in attempts to build healthy microorganism populations and thus improve gut health or digestive function. Traditional supplementation products have had limited success because stomach acids typically kill probiotic microorganisms before they reach the intestines.
“GanedenBC30 stands apart from traditional probiotics because it is spore-forming,” said Ganeden Biotech co-founder and Chief Scientist Sean Farmer. “That means that inside the bacterial cell is a hardened structure, or spore, which is similar to a seed. This spore, or seed, protects the cell’s genetic material against manufacturing processes, digestion and on-shelf deterioration. Because of its unique composition, GanedenBC30 is able to reach the intestines in greater numbers and begin to colonize better than many current probiotic strains.
“We are pleased to make this breakthrough technology available to pet food producers with our partners at AFB, who understand the industry so well,” added Farmer.
